Contemporary Futons Have Come a Long Way
Despite the futon’s humble beginning as a mattress on the floor in ancient Japan, it has evolved to be one of the most versatile pieces of
furniture a homeowner can have. No longer intended solely for sleeping, the contemporary futon is accompanied by its own frame in metal or wood
and can double as a couch or a chair during the day. Nowadays, futons are available in all shapes and sizes to allow the consumer the maximum
amount of comfort and use available for their dollar. The mattresses can be stylish -- some are upholstered, resembling a traditional
piece of furniture. Others come in plain, solid colors in a variety of thicknesses. The plain mattresses can be easily spiced up by
adding a
futon cover and some colorful throw pillows.
Some furniture manufacturers have even gone a step further by creating a futon inside of a fully upholstered couch or chair.
The couch or chair can be pulled out when the futon mattress is needed. These are generally more comfortable than the traditional
foldout couch and are available in a variety of designs to create an aesthetically pleasing home accent. Although they are more
expensive than their less fashionable counterparts, these upholstered pieces of furniture offer a nice solution for the conscientious
homeowner who wishes to make the best impression possible.
